PROSPECTUS

Expressions 2018 is North Country Arts third annual regional juried art show which will be held at the Shirt Factory Gallery in Glens Falls, NY during the month of May 2018. Three significant monetary awards (Gold – $750, Silver- $500, Bronze- $250) will be presented at the opening reception on May 5th. The exhibitions will be advertised by both the Shirt Factory Gallery and North Country Arts both in print media and electronically. This is an open call opportunity and includes sculpture, photography, painting, printmaking, digital art, pottery, etc.

Juror: Francine Nemer, artist and longtime international Gallery owner.

After graduating Summa Cum Laude in fine arts and design from Russell Sage College, Ms. Nemer entered the art world as a retail art dealer. In 1986, she opened the Art Collector Gallery in the Sagamore Resort Hotel on Lake George which she ran for 17 years. Her Gallery was an affiliate of the Christie’s Contemporary Art gallery of London, only one of three in the US and consisted of many internationally acclaimed artists from around the world representing France, England, Ireland, Russia, Greece, China, Canada, Germany, Israel, Italy, Hong Kong and Africa. The Gallery also included modern and American contemporary artists, as well as local artists from upstate New York. Having grown up in a family of artists in Philadelphia, she learned to work with many mediums such as oil, watercolor, acrylic, printmaking, silkscreen printing to mention a few. Currently she volunteers at the Hyde Collection Art Museum and is involved with planning their fundraising events.

Eligibility:

Art will be accepted from within a 150-mile radius from Glens Falls in any direction, but art must be delivered and picked up for there will be no shipping available.

  1. Maximum frame or sculpture dimensions – 48 inches on the longest side.
  2. Original work only and must be for sale.
  3. Work must be ready to hang or display or will not be included.

 

Fees and Categories:

There will be a jurying fee of $25 for NCA members for two submissions and $35 for non-members for two submissions. For 3D–two images for each 3D submission. Jurying fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.

Entering Your Images:

The entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes to the nearest inch for frame size and image without the frame. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right side-up. Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Sales:

All sales will be handled by the Shirt Factory Gallery. Commission on all sales is 35% which benefits North Country Arts.

Calendar – Timeline:

December 1, 2017 – Opening date for submitting work online.
April 1, 2018 – Closing date for submitting work online.
April 20, 2018 – Notifications go out
April 26-28, 2018 – Drop Off at the Shirt Factory Gallery, Shirt Factory, 71 Lawrence St., Glens Falls, NY, 12 Noon to 5pm.
May 3, 2018 – Award winners chosen.
May 5, 2018 – Reception and Awards presented.
May 26, 2018 – Show Closes.
May 26, 2018 – Pick up of Art from 12 to 5pm.
May 30-31, June 1, 2 – If pick up not possible on these days contact info@northcountryarts.org.
(If not picked up there will be a storage fee of $5 from 1 to 6 days, $10 from 7 to 14 days, $15 for 15 plus days.)

Legal/Liability:

Each work is insured to a reasonable amount while turned over to the care of the Shirt Factory Gallery. However, the Shirt Factory Gallery or North Country Arts will not be held liable for damage as a result of workmanship or design. Artists are responsible for delivering to and from the Gallery and for insuring work while in transit. Artists are also responsible for providing work that is sturdy and durable for necessary hanging purposes.

Artists also agree to allow North Country Arts to photograph works for promotional purposes.
